National Production Protection Directorate Overview

Ever since Jordan became a member in the World Trade Organization (WTO) in April 11th 2000, many structural and legal modifications have been put in place within the governmental framework; one of which, is the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s establishment of the National Production Protection Directorate This Directorate has been structured to become the specialized directorate to ensure execution of the WTO's agreements related to safeguards, antidumping, and anti-subsidization issues.

The National Production Protection Directorate works towards implementing all provisions stated under these agreements through the application of Jordanian laws and regulations in a manner that allows the protection of, and assistance to, local industries and producers who suffer injury as a result of unjust or injurious trade practices such as, the increasing import of certain goods into the kingdom or importing goods in a dumped or subsidized price.

The National Production Protection Directorate aims at building a solid foundation that would support the international trade regulations yet would protect the local manufacturers from injurious or unjust practices of international trade, and would help them improve the status of the local industry and its competitiveness on the local and international levels.
